WHEN THE INDIAN STARS OUTSHONE THE SUN
IIFA 2001 saw more than 250 biggest celebrities of Indian Cinema step into the Sun City, South Africa. The hosts for the evening, Miss World Priyanka Chopra and the dashing Kabir Bedi, welcomed the guests, while Hrithik Roshan descended on stage enthralling millions. Karisma Kapoor presented the music nominations through an innovative performance. Les Oiseaux Du Paradis from Canada defied gravity with a breathtaking pole act. The first ever IIFA World Premiere screened 'Lagaan', which went on to win a nomination at the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film, followed by an exclusive session with the world media discussing the increasing global awareness about Indian Cinema.
IIFA 2001 also introduced Hindi film distribution and exhibition, through Ster Kinekor, which is the largest distributor & exhibitor in South Africa owning 360 screens and the largest circuit of 1.6 million viewers for Hindi cinema. Today, Ster Kinekor has the distribution rights of more than 200 Hindi film titles.
